Student Accommodation Whilst Studying at IMA

Studying at The Iver Makeup Academy is an exciting step toward a creative and fulfilling career in Makeup SFX and Hair for Film, TV, Theatre and Fashion. Whether you are joining us for a few weeks or enrolling onto our Industry Ready Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Makeup and Hair Artistry course, one important consideration is where to stay throughout your training. This is one of the most asked questions we have, so we have outlined some of the most popular accommodation options available to students that are near IMA.

Student House Share (Recommended for Longer Courses)

Many of our students choose to share a house or flat with fellow Iver students. This is not only cost-effective but also a great way to build friendships and share your journey with others who understand the intensity and creativity of the course.

Pros:

. Affordable weekly rates when split

. Social and supportive environment

. Often close to the Academy

Top Tips:

. You will be added onto a Whatsapp group dependant on your course start date to meet your fellow cohort and connect with others looking for housemates

. Consider areas like Uxbridge, Iver, Gerrards Cross, Slough or Langley for quick commutes

Short-Term Rentals & Airbnbs (Ideal for Short Courses)

If you’re attending a short course (1-4 weeks), platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com offer great flexibility with furnished accommodation.

Pros:

. Easy, flexible bookings

. Variety of price points and privacy levels

. Accommodation can be within walking distance

Things to Consider:

. Private Landlords can have last minute availability due to the nature of the film and tv industry.

. Check for amenities like kitchen access, especially if you are staying longer than a week.

. It may also be a good idea to rent from Monday-Thursday, and stay at home over the weekend- this can make accommodation dramatically cheaper.

Homestays & Lodger Arrangements

Some students prefer the comfort of staying with local family or homeowners or rent out a room. It’s a great way to enjoy a home away from home whilst staying focused on your course.

Pros:

. Often includes meals or shared facilities

. Quiet environment

. Great for those who prefer a more settled routine

How to Find:

. Try platforms like Spare Room, Homestay.com, or ask us for trusted local contacts

Hotels & Serviced Apartments

If convenience and comfort are your priorities, you might opt for a hotel or serviced apartment. This is especially useful if you’re attending a short course or are an overseas student.

Nearby Options:

. Premier Inn, Uxbridge,

. Holiday Inn, Slough/Windsor

. Staycity Aparthotels, Heathrow

Pros

. No set up needed – just check in and focus on your course

. Ideal for international students or short-term visitors

The Pinewood Shuttle Bus (Getting to the Academy Easily)

We’re based within the prestigious Pinewood Studios– and students can benefit from the Pinewood Shuttle Bus, which offers convenient and reliable transport to and from the site.

Key Info:

. Runs Monday to Friday during term time

. Serves nearby locations such as Uxbridge, Slough, Langley, Gerrards Cross and West Ruislip- making it ideal if you’re staying in those areas.

. Free for students and studio staff (ID required)

Why its Useful:

. Makes commuting stress-free, even if you don’t drive

. Reduces the cost and hassle of daily travel

. Syncs well with most class start and end times

Top Tip:

When booking accommodation, check how close it is to a Pinewood Shuttle Bus Stop- this can make a big difference to your commute! Be aware that online maps and route planners do not show the Pinewood Shuttle Bus as an option!

Commuting from Home

If you are based in London or surrounding areas and are attending one of our courses, commuting may be an option. IMA is well-connected via:

. Train: Langley or Iver Stations have links to Paddington and the Elizabeth line. Uxbridge Station uses the Metropolitan and Piccadilly Lines as well as London Buses.

. Driving: Free parking available on site

. Bus Routes: Well connected to Uxbridge, Slough, and surrounding areas.
