A Look at Life and Learning at Pinewood Studios
In October, The Iver Makeup Academy opened its doors to a range of aspiring makeup artists, hair enthusiasts, and industry professionals. The open day provided a close-up view of what makes our academy a top choice for those looking to break into the world of professional makeup.
Welcoming New Talent
As visitors arrived, they were greeted by staff, current students, and alumni who were eager to give honest insights into the Iver experience. The day was organised to allow attendees to explore different aspects of our courses, from makeup for film and TV to fashion and special effects.
Guests toured our fully equipped studios and classrooms, getting a feel for the hands-on training environment that sets The Iver apart. There were plenty of opportunities to observe live demos, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of the work and dedication involved in building a successful makeup career.
Real-World Demonstrations
One of the highlights of the day was a series of live demos and tutorials led by our instructors and graduates, all of whom are working professionals.
Sarah-Jane’s SFX Blood Bag workshop attracted a lot of attention, giving visitors a taste of what it’s like to work with blood and build realistic, detailed effects for Film, TV and Theatre. Alumni also joined the demos, offering advice on what it’s like to work in the industry and how their training at Iver prepared them for their careers.
Touring Our Facilities
Throughout the Open Day, attendees explored our range of studios, each one designed to mirror a real-world set or studio. They saw where students practice everything from editorial makeup for fashion shoots to period makeup. The Iver team walked guests through how we emphasise portfolio-building as part of the curriculum, ensuring that students leave with professional-grade knowledge and skills to showcase.
Q&A and Networking
Open day provides an opportunity for guests to ask questions about our courses, career paths, and industry expectations. The IMA team and former students were open and straightforward about the hard work involved, discussing the skills and flexibility required to stand out. Networking was another key element of the day, giving visitors a chance to connect with others who share their interest in the makeup industry.
Next Steps
The open day provided a realistic look into life at The Iver Makeup Academy, from the daily routines in the studio to the kinds of projects students tackle. We aim to offer more than just technical training—our goal is to prepare students for the realities of working in this competitive industry.
