Opera Wig Masterclass – Pam Lamb
Wednesday, February 22, 2017
Pam Lamb visited our students at The Iver Academy for an Opera Wig Masterclass.
Pam started life in the theatre as a classically trained ballet dancer with Sadlers Wells and the Scottish National Ballet. As she always used make up and wigs it seemed a natural career change when the time came. From on stage to back stage.
As well as teaching stage make up and wig masterclasses, Pam freelances at the Royal Opera House, working with the opera and ballet principals. Her work at the opera house has covered The Tales of Hoffman, Faust, Carmen, Nutcracker and Swan Lake to name but a few.
Pam has also worked on ITV’s TV drama Judge John Deed, and the Queens Nose with the BBC.
Another area of work that Pam enjoys is weddings. Due to her theatrical background Pam keeps things calm and ordered to ensure the bride and bridal party enjoy their day.
Pam gave us some examples of tough challenges she has faced in her working life.
Theatre – Putting a bald cap on an artist who was flown over flames. The bald cap was constantly peeling off because of the heat.
Film – Had to make blood drip slowly from a tap.
Theatre – Dressing 12 waist length wigs in tight corkscrew curls for the ballet The Nutcracker.
Whatever happens, keep calm even in rapidly changing situations.
