New Year, New Career
Tuesday, December 14, 2021
The new year traditionally presents the opportunity for fresh starts. For some people, the changes are minor while for others they could be life-changing. The Iver Makeup Academy has welcomed countless students who were ready to give their careers the makeover of a lifetime. Now that the film industry is back to business and new studios are being built, it’s an exciting time to become a hair and makeup artist. Could you be part of the class of 2022?
New studios, new opportunities
With the cameras rolling and theatres reopening, now is the time to get your training in place. The T.V and Film industry has never been busier. New studios are currently being built throughout the U.K , which will further increase demand for crew in all departments. There are so many new opportunities for professionally qualified hair and makeup artists!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the British studio boom is “white hot”. Pinewood, Shepperton and Leavesden studios are undergoing dramatic expansions and the UK is welcoming some new major players. The US entertainment firm Blackhall Studios (whose productions include ‘Jumanji’, ‘Venom’ and ‘Doctor Sleep’) is planning to build a state-of-the-art £150m film studio in Reading. It will be home to some of Britain’s largest new productions and create up to 1,500 jobs on-site.
Hollywood-based Sunset Studios, which produced ‘La La Land’ and ‘X-Men’, has plans to open a new studio in Hertfordshire. The £700m TV and film studio complex will create more than 4,500 jobs. Meanwhile, East London will also welcome a new £350m production complex in Dagenham and plans are being submitted in Marlow, Buckinghamshire for more, much needed studio space.
An iconic location to start a show-stopping career
For aspiring media makeup artists, there is no better base than Pinewood Studios, a powerhouse in the British film industry. In its 85-year history, productions spanning sitcoms to international blockbusters have been filmed at Pinewood Studios. Recent productions include ‘No Time to Die’, ‘Eternals’, ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Last Night in Soho’. Pinewood is also opening a visitor experience called ‘Screen Hub UK’ which will include film production facilities, educational/skills training and a film-inspired international visitor attraction. The project will create new jobs and further strengthen the industry.
The Iver Makeup Academy is fortunate to be based at these legendary studios, giving unrivalled access to the best course tutors, tools of the trade and contacts. The teaching team comprises working makeup and hair artists with impressive portfolios of stage and screen projects. They are happy to share their passion and knowledge with students, who benefit from small class sizes.
The location is perfect for hands-on, vocational training and familiarising yourself with the practical realities of working on a film set. As a hair and makeup artist for stage and screen, enrolling in a course at Iver Makeup Academy can accelerate your career. Our graduates are sought-after in the industry for their comprehensive skills, creative ability and knowledge of on-set etiquette. Don’t just take our word for it; you can check our blog to read success stories about our graduates – many of them have continued to work as the T.V and Film industry was allowed to restart in July 2020 with strict health and safety rules in place..
